Queen Elizabeth ll has been forced to change her holiday plans amid a surge in COVID-19 cases across the UK.
The British monarch, 95, has opted not to head to Sandringham as planned, according to People, who reports she’ll remain at Windsor Castle for the Christmas and New Year break.
Queen Elizabeth traditionally stays at her Norfolk estate from late December until early February, but a source told the outlet she made her decision to stay put after “careful consideration” and as a “precautionary approach” amid ongoing coronavirus concerns.
The insider added that Queen Elizabeth will still be visited by members of the royal family throughout the duration of the holiday season.
This will mark Her Royal Majesty’s first Christmas without her late husband, Prince Philip, who died in April. He was 99.

This is the second year in a row that the Queen has had to miss out on holiday travel due to the pandemic.
The royal family traditionally arrives at Sandringham on Christmas Eve, and famously walks to a church service at St. Mary’s Magdalene Church on Christmas Day.
The decision to curb tradition as a precaution comes just one week after the royal canceled her pre-Christmas lunch for the extended family. It was slated to take place on Tuesday at Windsor Castle.
